Our ceramic pins are made of hard, stabilized zirconium oxide or silicon nitrate, which provide longer life than steel pins with no risk of electrical shorting. The extremely hard ceramic materials resist wear and spatter without any risk of localized damage and compromising of the coating. Ceramic pins are well suited for most applications and can outlast traditional steel pins by factors of 50 or more if used properly. Due to the high hardness and manufacturing process for the ceramic, all parts are finished to specification by diamond grinding. This does increase the lead time and cost for each pin.

Ceramic pins may not suit all designs, but some hybrid options (half steel, half solid ceramic) may be available to fit your application. Hybrid pins are sometimes used in those applications that require a thread for locating. Since it is impractical and cost-prohibitive to grind a solid ceramic, a steel component with a machined thread is joined to the wear-resistant solid ceramic component.
